Bodock Wood Pen

Bodock European pen by Jason Collins Bodock (Bois d’arc) is one of the hardest woods that I have every turned.  It is used in North Mississippi for fence posts and foundation posts; any job where you need a hard, long-lasting wood.  It was also a prized material for making bows (hence the name).  In Arkansas, in the 1800, a good bodock bow would cost you a horse and a blanket. You can own an equally durable and beautiful pen for far less.

Until the turn of the century, the heels of women’s shoes were made from maple. Hard maple has been a favorite among wood workers since early Colonial days.
